The Beautiful Hangover blog is full of useful life hacks and advice for all folks on the sensitive end of the spectrum. But more than that, I read it because it manages to make me choke up AND belly laugh at the same time. Chelsey perfectly pierces our ideas of normality, and the many ways it can feel to be human in this deeply weird society.

I've found Chelsey to be a thoughtful commentator on issues around alcohol and autism for a number of years. She spoke at our 2020 conference and many people appreciated her honest perspectives.

Chelsey's work has been transformative for me. Discovering her newsletters has given me a glimpse into myself and allowed me to recognize elements of my personality that I didn't have words to describe previously. Her writing is bold and courageous, while also being fun and engaging. She shares the deepest insights from her personal experience, which service as an invaluable guide for others confronting alcoholism, neurodivergent diagnoses, or others aspects of the human experience.

Chelsey has been writing her Beautiful Hangover blog for some time now, as well as Polite Robot alongside this. What comes to life from each one is not just how eloquent and beautiful she writes (I mean, anyone can see that) but also, and more pointedly, how human her way with words make her words so accessible to all. She really is a very special type of human who really cares about her audience; each word used is considered and written with a purpose in mind. By and large, that purpose is to inform and educate, but with an entertaining and soulful spin which is unique to Chelsey alone.

We live in a world where everyone has an opinion and something to say, which is both wonderful and terrifying in equal measure. What Chelsey successfully manages to convey is her vulnerability (eg. her addiction battle) and also her strength (her sobriety and aim to help others with similar challenges). I say with confidence that this blog stands out amongst her peers as an experiential piece, which isn't easy for Non Fiction, in the sense we share a modicum of her pain through her past regrets and elation at her current soulfulness and worldly wisdom. Chelsey creates content that is pleasurable to read, among multiple genres, and thus proves to be quality blogger, writer and person.

What to say? I have learned much from Chelsey the past few years. We share a similar past, it seems, and her writings have been very enlightening to me as I’ve tangled with my past. She has opened my eyes to new insights about my drinking and my behavior as a drinker. I have shared much of her story and insights with my AA group in my small town in North Dakota USA, and all agree she has merit and has helped us to better understand our situation. Thanks Chelsey! Couldn’t have done it without your help!

I’d love to read this book! I’m 2 1/2 years sober and recently diagnosed Autistic (9 months). There’s really no Autistic centered recovery program that I’ve ever found. It’s a huge hurdle to recovery in my opinion. This book would encompass two of my special interests as well. Hope it gets published!!

I've been reading Chelsea's insights about sobriety and mental health since I began my alcohol and pot free life 3 and 1/2 years ago. I love her writings and insights. She has been very helpful to me and I know others as well. I always click on the article when I first see it. I read anything she writes and have never not left it feeling better, more aware and glad I have another sober friend on this path. Thanks Chelsea.

As a parent of a daughter with a late autism and adhd diagnosis, Chelsey's writing is incredibly helpful because is honest and humorous, gives really good advice/hacks/tools and it is clear that she is learning through experience which is so authentic. Her blogs make me look at myself and other people around me with much more compassion, humility and understanding which can only be a good thing.

Coming from a point of view on the autism spectrum, Chelsey's writing has assisted me in unexpected ways. I don't fit the technical definition of neurodivergence...but then again I don't process information in alignment with social expectations. I am transgender. Gender dysphoria has been my lifelong companion and after 14 years of continuous sobriety I finally decided to do something about it and seek treatment. Like her story, my diagnosis is precious to me as it caused all the pieces of a scrambled mess of life to fall into place. Her willingness to share her stories openly and honestly has given me courage to continue sifting through my own amphora of unique differences, and, even if it makes others uncomfortable, to not hide it any longer.
