I think, correct if wrong, you've said before that you are also diagnosed with ADHD (as am I now) and I wonder whether there's also a battle going on between the ADHD need to try new things, be in the group, party and play... and the autistic need to be alone, social discomfort, fear of self others being out of control etc. I used to use recreational stimulants along with alcohol to find that balance but I think I'm generally better sober these days. Yes, both! I think you are right and that there is. I reckon lots of my early drinking and drug use was simply for the thrill of trying something new. Apparently alcohol feels different for some brains and for me it really was just extremely exhilarating and irresistible! As was the idea of trying new drugs. And some of them felt so great!!! No wonder I got carried away : ) This is why the intersection between addiction and neurodiversity is so interesting to me. Creativity too. They all seem to be very interwoven...
